Join our team supporting the U.S. Navy's telecommunications infrastructure in beautiful Yokosuka, Japan! We're hiring a Switch Maintenance Technician to maintain and troubleshoot Nortel/Avaya/GenBand telephone switching systems across NAVCOMTELSTA Far East.
Key Details
- Full-time, onsite (Monday–Friday, 0800–1645 JST).
- Support 13+ regional sites and mission-critical systems.
- Active Secret Clearance required.
Position Summary
This position is critical to ensuring reliable communication through continuous system maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades across multiple regional Navy sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7/365 sustainment and emergency technical support for all Navy-owned Nortel, Avaya, and GenBand telephone switches and associated voicemail systems.
- Perform moves, adds, changes (MACs), trunk monitoring, system status reviews, emergency fault isolation, and resolution.
- Install and manage OEM patches, firmware, and software updates as required.
- Serve as site lead for troubleshooting, hands-on training, and coordination with Navy staff and vendors.
- Administer and coordinate repair/replacement services for mission-critical switch components and electronic subassemblies.
- Support and maintain systems including: MSL-100, CM6, CM8, CM10, M1, RCC2, AS5300, 11C, Switch Expert, and RLCM.
- Maintain weekly and monthly reports and ensure adherence to cybersecurity policies and IA controls.
- Travel to regional support sites for emergency maintenance.
- Interface with local and regional government leads for daily coordination and direction.
Required Qualifications:
- CompTIA Security+ CE certification or equivalent IAT Level II certification per [SECNAV M-5239.2] and [DoD 8140] Cybersecurity Workforce requirements.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades on Nortel, Avaya, or GenBand digital telephone switching systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of telephony infrastructure, including:
- Digital/analog switching systems.
- Trunking and voice signal routing.
- System software management and patching.
- Hardware replacement and diagnostics.
- Digital voice services and voicemail platforms
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance required. Successful candidates must be a U.S. Citizen and will be subject to successfully obtain, complete, and maintain a favorable Tier 3 (NACLC & ANACI) Government Secret Security Clearance and to include a favorable Tier 1 (formerly known as a National Agency Check Inquiries (NACI) background check which includes a successful completion of a Base Access Registration Pass and associative suitability.
- Successful candidates will be required to maintain a valid driver's license.
- Successful candidates will be subject to complete and maintain a successful completion of drug screen and MVR check.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior work on military or government communications systems.
- Familiarity with remote site coordination, emergency support operations, and Navy communication standards.
