Position Summary
RAM Precision Industries is seeking a highly skilled Swiss CNC Programmer to develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for Swiss-style CNC machining equipment used in the production of high-precision components. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes to meet the highest quality standards for our products. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of Swiss-style machining, CNC programming, and tight-tolerance manufacturing processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for Swiss-style CNC machines.
- Develop efficient machining processes for new and existing components.
- Review engineering drawings, CAD models, customer specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Determine machining sequences, tooling, feeds and speeds, cutting parameters, and workholding requirements.
- Program and optimize Swiss machining operations involving main and sub-spindles, live tooling, and complex machining tasks.
- Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling lists, program documentation, and manufacturing instructions.
- Support machinists during machine setup, program prove-out, first-piece production, and production runs.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, dimensional, surface-finish, and machine-related issues.
- Make necessary program and process adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality.
- Optimize existing programs for cycle time reduction, tool life improvement, machine utilization, and overall production efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, setup time, and manufacturing costs.
- Collaborate with Quality personnel to address dimensional or manufacturing issues.
- Work closely with Engineering and Production personnel on new products, process improvements, and challenges.
- Maintain proper program revision control, ensuring current programs and documentation are accessible to production.
- Assist with the selection and implementation of cutting tools and Swiss machining components.
- Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives related to Swiss machining operations.
- Adhere to company safety policies, quality standards, and established manufacturing processes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience programming and/or setting up Swiss-style CNC machines in a precision manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of Swiss CNC machining principles and processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming and G-code.
- Understanding of machining operations including main spindle, sub-spindle, live tooling, and multi-axis machining.
- Ability to troubleshoot CNC programs, setups, tooling, and machining processes effectively.
- Strong understanding of tight-tolerance manufacturing.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with machinists, Engineering, Quality, Production, and management.
- Attention to detail with a commitment to producing quality components.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
- Technical degree, machining certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education and relevant CNC experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of Swiss CNC programming, setup, or machining experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a precision machining or manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience programming and operating multi-axis Swiss CNC equipment.
- Familiarity with Citizen, Tsugami, Star, or similar Swiss-style CNC machines.
- Proficiency with CAM software used for Swiss CNC programming.
- Experience with tight-tolerance, complex precision components.
- Knowledge of first-piece and first-article inspection processes.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment and optimizing cycle times.
