Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools seeks a custodial professional to maintain clean, safe facilities across campuses. The role is 8 hours per day, 12 months per year and non-exempt under FLSA.

You will supervise swing shifts, train new staff, and ensure safe operation of HVAC and cleaning equipment. Responsibilities include directing daily work, meeting tight deadlines, and upholding respectful interactions with students, staff, and the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year experience as custodial assistant or custodian.
• Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude; learn to maintain HVAC and other systems.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Current WISHA approved first aid certification.
• Current ISSAS district training and certification.

Responsibilities

• Treat co-workers, supervisor, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times.
• Work under supervision of Building Operator; assign work to swing shift custodial staff and oversee their work.
• Train new custodial assistants and substitute staff in proper cleaning techniques.
• Operate HVAC system and write work orders for maintenance as necessary.
• Perform cleaning tasks including restrooms, floors, walls, furniture, and classrooms; use power tools and hazardous chemicals safely.
• Prepare facilities for after-school activities; open/secure building and assist groups.
• Ensure facility is physically secured daily and conduct safety inspections.
• Perform minor repairs and maintain supply inventory; anticipate future needs.
