Job summary

City of Altoona is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of municipal buildings and surrounding grounds. The role includes performing various custodial tasks and ensuring facilities are safe and welcoming for staff and the public.

The position operates on a swing shift with schedule variations to cover departmental needs, including occasional shifts Monday through Friday. Applicants should be able to work independently and lift heavy objects, with strong attention

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly clean floors by mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming and maintain floors (strip/wax/polish).
• Dust furniture and fixtures; polish brass and clean windows.
• Sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Maintain exterior grounds: cut grass, trim hedges, shovel snow as needed.
• Perform minor repairs and report significant damage.
• Move furniture and deliver supplies as required.
• Inventory custodial supplies and equipment; order materials as needed.
• Keep custodial equipment in good working order and follow safety protocols.
• Assist with occasional painting and other maintenance tasks.
• Open and close facilities, ensuring security and safety.
