Job summary

The City of Altoona is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of municipal buildings and surrounding grounds. This swing-shift role includes flexibility to cover departmental needs as shifts vary.

Responsibilities include floor care, restroom sanitization, exterior maintenance, minor repairs, and inventory management. Generous benefits and advancement opportunities are provided by the city.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Familiarity with custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Capacity to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Physical ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and facility safety.
• Ability to interact professionally with colleagues and public visitors.

Responsibilities

• Clean floors through mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming; strip, wax, and polish floors/furniture.
• Dust furniture/fixtures; polish brass; clean windows.
• Sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Maintain exterior grounds: lawn care, hedges, snow removal.
• Perform minor repairs; replace light bulbs; report significant damage.
• Move furniture and deliver supplies efficiently.
• Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and reorder as needed.
• Keep custodial equipment in good working order and follow safety protocols.
• Assist with painting and other maintenance tasks.
• Open/close facilities and ensure security.
