Qualifications

Dive into Leadership: Coach the YMCA Swim Team - Irving Park YMCA is now hiring a Swim Team Coach!

As a Swim Team Coach, you will be responsible for promoting and developing the YMCA swim team by facilitating the growth and improvement of swim team participants and creating a positive experience for participants and their families. This includes coordinating with the Head Coach to develop and implement practices, engaging participants and families to meet their needs, preparing for meets and other special events, and ensuring the safety of participants.

Salary range starts at $16.34 per hour with opportunities to grow within the organization

What you'll do:

Coaching/Participant Experience

• Coach, train, and mentor swimmers to foster development, maximize swimming performance, and teach appropriate swimming techniques.
• Lead swim team practices developed by the Head Coach and assist with the design of training programs. Engage swimmers and parents to build collaborative relationships. Modify and customize workouts to match swimmer skill levels. Provide feedback to facilitate improvement, refine abilities, and prevent injury.
• Record swimming times to track progress and determine meet eligibility.

Meet Preparation and Execution

• Stay informed about meet rules and guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Assist with submitting meet entries.
• Help coordinate suits and uniforms.
• Supervise swimmers at meets and team functions.
• Work with volunteers, officials, scorekeepers, and timers.

Safety

• Ensure the physical and emotional safety of swimmers by following YMCA standards and evaluating situations for risks.
• Monitor swimmers and the pool, providing corrective coaching and intervention as needed.

Continued Education & Training

• Participate in obtaining water safety certifications.
• Attend scheduled trainings and staff meetings.
• Maintain certifications and document them in the HR system.

How you'll do it:

• Be at least 16 years old.
• Hold USA Swimming certification.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent and prior competitive swimming experience.
• Be proficient in swimming and safety skills.
• Motivate and educate participants effectively.
• Handle dangerous situations to ensure swimmer safety.
• Possess strong computer skills.

Child Abuse Prevention

• Report hazards and suspicious behavior.
• Follow policies for child safety and supervision.
• Complete required child abuse prevention training.
