Job summary

Greater Joliet Area YMCA in Plainfield, IL, is seeking a part-time Swim Team Assistant to support the Lead Site Swim Coach, assist with practice planning, and deliver technique instruction at the CW Avery Family YMCA.

You will help coordinate meets, maintain records, and foster positive relationships with swimmers and families while upholding YMCA safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills.
• At least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of swim team per YMCA guidelines and prepare daily practice plans.
• Serve as secondary lifeguard and provide emergency services when necessary.
• Build relationships with swimmers and parents; encourage volunteer involvement.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; refer to other programs as appropriate.
• Maintain attendance and progress records.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures; complete incident/accident reports.
• Attend all home and away swim meets; must have reliable transportation.
• Organize and store class equipment; report damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.

Job Location: CW Avery Family YMCA - Plainfield, IL 60544, Position Type: Part Time, Salary Range: $16.50 - $17.50 Hourly

Position Summary

Assist the Lead Site Swim Coach in the administration and operation of the YMCA youth competitive swim team year round program. Provide technical instruction necessary to improve competitive swimming skill.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assists in instruction of swim team in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared daily practice plans for all groups on site, or delegates that responsibility to assistant coaches on site.
• Serve as secondary assist to lifeguard when teaching/coaching and provide emergency services when necessary.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Responsible for attending all home and away swim meets. Must have reliable transportation to all meets.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

Qualifications

• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, STSC, and clear background check with USAS Athlete Protection.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• At least 18 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
• Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
