Job summary

The WSYMCA is seeking a Junior Swim Coach to join our team at Church St. We are hiring for up to 20 hours a week, starting pay at $15.00 per hour.

Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swimmers on swim team, with a supportive, inclusive culture. You will work within our safety and youth-development focused environment and participate in ongoing training and team activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen.
  • Knowledge of competitive strokes and water safety.
  • Commitment to anti-racist work in the organization.
  • USA Swim Coach certifications preferred.
  • Current Lifeguard Training or Safety Training for Swim Coaches preferred.
  • Reliable and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to relate to diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist coaches and instruct swimmers per YMCA guidelines with prepared practices.
  • Build authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; encourage involvement and volunteers.
  • Conveys information on swim team, aquatics programs and schedules.
  • Attends practices and swim meets as required.
  • Supports DEIB commitments by modeling equity and inclusion.
  • Maintains attendance and swim meet records as required.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Follows YMCA policies and safety procedures; completes incident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes and stores swim team equipment; reports damaged equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared practices and workouts accordingly.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Conveys information on the swim team, aquatics programs and schedules.
  • Attends practices and swim meets as required.
  • Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, swim meet reports, etc.).
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes and puts away needed swim team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Knowledge of the competitive strokes and techniques, competitive swimming and general water safety.
  • Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed.
  • USA Swim Coach certifications preferred.
  • Current Lifeguard Training Certification or Safety Training for Swim Coaches preferred.
  • Reliable and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT:
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Attend required abuse risk management training.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
  • Ability to lift equipment.
