Job description

The City of Lewisville's Parks & Recreation Department is currently seeking Water Safety Swim Instructors to be a part of a great team that serves over 100,000 community members. This is a seasonal position from May - September 2025.

We value the experience and loyalty of our returning employees and recognize their contributions by offering higher pay for each consecutive year they return to the same position. For example, starting pay for new hires is $16.67 per hour. For employees returning for a second year, the hourly rate increases to $17.17, with further incremental increases for additional years up to six. This system rewards dedication and allows returning employees to continue growing with us while benefiting from their prior experience in the role with the City of Lewisville.

Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor and Assistant Aquatic Supervisor, the instructor will implement lesson plans for group swim lessons, assist individuals scheduled for private and semi-private swim lessons, and educate guests on water safety. The instructor will also organize and give direction to Swim Lesson Aides who assist the class.

• Ensures the safety of class participants.
• Implements lesson plans for group swim lessons.
• Assists individuals scheduled for private and semi-private swim lessons.
• Educates guests of all age groups on water safety.
• Organizes and directs Swim Lesson Aides who assist the class.

Minimum Requirements:

• Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly, working a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with team members and facility guests.

Preferences:

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent certification preferred.
• Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate preferred.

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must have at least one season of experience teaching learn-to-swim classes.
• Must submit to and pass a criminal background and pre-employment drug test.
• Must hold or be able to obtain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Must hold or be able to obtain First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.
• All persons hired are required to provide their own swimsuit as specified by the Aquatic Supervisor.

Shifts: Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri, Sat, 8am-12pm, 4pm-7pm.
