Job summary

The City of Ann Arbor is seeking a Swim Instructor III to teach swimming and water safety to both children and adults. You will supervise class activities for small groups or private lessons and may lead programs at multiple pools.

You will help organize registrations, assess student skills, train junior staff, and participate in program evaluation to ensure high standards across facilities.

Qualifications

• Two years of swim instruction experience and one year in program administration.
• Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
• Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard certification by start of employment.
• Current Water Safety Instructor certification.
• Covid-19 vaccination required or approved exemption.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming and water safety skills for children and adults per City of Ann Arbor standards.

• Lead instructor for a pool and support instructional swim programs across multiple pools.

Swim Instructor III

Starting Hourly Rate: $19.15

Description

Instructs swimming and water safety skills for children and adults according to City of Ann Arbor standards. Responsible for the supervision of structured class activities for a small group of students or for individual private lessons. Will routinely act as a lead instructor for a particular pool and may assist with the organization and implementation of instructional swim programs at multiple pools, including program registration procedures, student skill assessment, training and supervision of other swim instructors, and program evaluation.

Employees will have an opportunity for Lifeguard certification reimbursement up to $200 upon working a minimum of 200 hours.

Required Qualifications

• If hired, candidate is required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 no later than their start date or have a City of Ann Arbor approved medical / religious exemption
• Knowledge of instructional methods for teaching swimming and water safety skills to groups and individuals
• At least two years of swim instruction experience and one year of swim program administration required
• Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Please note, your certification must be from an organization that has been approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division. • Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification by start of employment
• Current Water Safety Instructor certification

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the administration and organization of instructional swim programs.

Physical Requirements

May exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
