OverviewThe YMCA of the Pikes Peak region is looking to hire an experienced Swim Instructor to help children and adults of all ages develop proper swimming techniques and skills. The Swim Instructor’s responsibilities include evaluating each student’s performance during swim sessions and providing feedback, completing attendance, progress, and accident reports, and ensuring that all swimming aids and equipment are in good working order. To be successful as a Swim Instructor, you should demonstrate patience and enthusiasm and be able to motivate students to accomplish their swimming goals. Ultimately, an exceptional Swim Instructor should be able to communicate effectively with students and ensure that all water safety rules are adhered to.This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor will provide skill-based swim and water safety instruction to participants of all ages. You will maintain constant supervision of students at all times to ensure safety. The Swim Instructor will create positive, nurturing relationships with students and build cooperative relationships with parents and caregivers. You will facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience.This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.ResponsibilitiesProvides swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages and abilitiesPlans and implements program activities that is culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA valuesHelps to create new approaches to serve the needs of program participantsAdheres to YMCA program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards, and ensures consistency with evidence-based practicesMaintains constant supervision of students, identifies students who need assistance, and supports students as necessary to ensure a positive learning environmentAttends staff meetings and trainingFollows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergenciesMaintains positive relationships with parents and caregivers and other staff. Models' relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactionsProvides participants and parents with on-going feedback regarding student’s progressSet up, take down, and organize class equipment. Report damage equipment to the supervisorSecure qualified substitute when necessaryAct as a responder in case of injury, accident or illness in the pool area.
