Job summary

Active Wellness Center in Vacaville, CA seeks a Swim Instructor to teach safe small group and private lessons. You will plan classes, demonstrate skills, and monitor progress, ensuring a positive learning environment for all ages.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, supporting water quality, and providing emergency care when needed. Candidates must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified and able to collaborate with the team to promote wellness services.

Location: Active Wellness Center at NorthBay - Vacaville, CAPay Transparency: $16.90 - $45.00 per hour (DOE; base rate + piece rate for swim lessons delivered) Minimum rates may vary based on local wage laws. Pay depends on factors including site location, specialty, certifications, work experience, and other business needs.Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching safe and effective small group and/or private swim classes for our members and are required to hold and maintain educational standards commensurate with Active Wellness quality and commitment to aquatics safety.Specific ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsTeaches various levels and age groups in accordance with Active Wellness instructional guidelines.Plan lessons, select appropriate drills, and evaluate the student's progress.Present proper demonstrations and explain skills, analyze and correct performance, minimize fear, and use appropriate teaching devices.Maintain a safe and positive teaching environment.Attend all in-service trainings.Maintain accurate records and prepare course completion certificates.Perform all swimming strokes and skills taught in all levels.Effectively communicate each student's progress either to the student directly, or to the student's parents where appropriate.Assist with water quality testing and record keeping for pools/spa, and pool/spa equipment observation and maintenanceAdminister emergency care to members and guests in need of assistanceWork as a TEAM with all other departmentsOther duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisorOther FunctionsBe knowledgeable about all programs and activities offered by Active WellnessPromote wellness center services and activitiesPerform routine maintenance of equipmentAssist with keeping the center well stocked and cleanAttend Active Wellness site meetings and trainingsHandle injury and illness and security incident reportingQualifications and Education RequirementsAll Swim Instructors are required to perform the following performance test prior to employment and may be tested at any time throughout their employment.Performance test are as follows:Demonstrate all swim strokes, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and treading water.Demonstrate all skills taught in all levels.Must be detail oriented, organized and highly responsive with a commitment to customer serviceStrong verbal communication skillsBasic computer skills, customer service skills, results oriented, ability to multitask, and commitment to the fitness industryAED/CPR/First Aid CertifiedProof of citizenship or legal statusPhysical and Working ConditionsAbility to take the responsibility for the health and safety of othersAbility to stand for several hours in a same shift; ability to lift 25 lbsFitness club environmentMust follow OSHA and Active Wellness safety standardsBenefitsHealth, Dental and Vision Insurance (Full Time)Health Flexible Spending Account (Full Time)Paid Time Off (Full Time)Parking & Transit Flexible Spending Accounts401(k) (Eligible after 1 year of service + 1000 work hours)Legal Support PlanEmployee Assistance Program & Mental Health Support ServiceComplimentary Club Membership and Discounts on Active Products (where applicable)This job description is intended to describe the general requirements for the position.
