West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA seeks experienced Swim Instructors to join our team at Church St and Wells Ave locations. Starting pay at $15.50, dependent upon experience, certifications and education. Free membership and an inclusive, welcoming culture.

The role provides leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes, with a focus on safety, engagement, and YMCA guidelines. Certification in lifeguarding and swim instruction preferred.

Formación

• Minimum age of 15.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen required.
• Demonstrate all strokes and swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• Lifeguard certification (American Red Cross or equivalent) preferred.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Instruct swim lessons per YMCA guidelines, keeping swimmers safe, challenged and engaged.
• Build relationships with students and parents; encourage involvement and volunteers.
• Communicate information on aquatics programs and schedules and refer to other programs when appropriate.
• Maintain attendance and progress records.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follow YMCA policies and safety procedures; complete incident reports as needed.
• Organize and store class equipment; report damaged items.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
• Willing to take on other duties as assigned.

The WSYMCA is seeking experienced Swim Instructors to join our team at our Church St and Wells Ave locations! Starting pay at $15.50, dependent upon experience, certifications and education.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• 1. Instructs swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines (i.e. keeping swimmers safe, challenged, and actively engaged, maintain a safe swimming environment, and enforcing pool rules & policies), having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• 2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• 3. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• 4. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
• 5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• 6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.
• 7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• 8. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
• 9. Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1. Minimum age of 15.
• 2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• 3. Must be able to demonstrate all stokes and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• 4. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, or equivalent preferred.
• 5. YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent preferred.

Physical Demands:

• 1. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
• 2. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
• 3. Ability to swim and demonstrate all strokes and skills.
