The West Suburban YMCA in Newton Corner, MA is seeking an experienced Full Time Swim Instructor. Starting pay is $15.50 per hour, dependent on experience, certifications and education, with a comprehensive benefits package including a 12% retirement contribution after vesting.

You will lead swim classes, build strong relationships with families, maintain records, and support program growth while upholding YMCA safety standards in a welcoming environment.

Formación

• Minimum age 15.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• Demonstrate all strokes and swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent preferred.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Instruct swim lessons following YMCA guidelines, keeping swimmers safe, engaged and challenged.
• Build authentic relationships with students and parents; encourage parent involvement.
• Provide information on aquatics programs and schedules; refer to other programs when appropriate.
• Maintain records such as attendance and progress reports.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follow all YMCA policies and safety procedures; complete incident reports as needed.
• Organize and store class equipment and report damaged items.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
• Be willing to take on additional duties as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. 1. Instructs swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines (i.e. keeping swimmers safe, challenged, and actively engaged, maintain a safe swimming environment, and enforcing pool rules & policies), having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
2. 2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
3. 3. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
4. 4. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
5. 5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
6. 6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.
7. 7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
8. 8. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
9. 9. Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 1. Minimum age of 15.
2. 2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
3. 3. Must be able to demonstrate all stokes and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
4. 4. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, or equivalent preferred.
5. 5. YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent preferred.

Physical Demands:

1. 1. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
2. 2. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
3. 3. Ability to swim and demonstrate all strokes and skills.
