The Swim Instructor role is vital at the YMCA, teaching youth and adults essential swim skills to ensure safety and enjoyment in a region with over 10,000 lakes. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun space for kids and adults to thrive in the water. As a Swim Instructor, you help create recreational swimmers, refine skills, and keep children safe around water.

Requirements and Opportunities:

• Minimum age of 16
• Experience swimming; training provided on teaching swim techniques
• Ability to work with diverse children and families in a group setting
• Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 4:00pm - 8:00pm (Monday-Thursday), Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm, with flexibility

Job Summary:

The Swim Instructor provides swimming instruction following YMCA guidelines, ensuring a safe, positive environment that promotes safety and satisfaction for members and participants.

Essential Functions:

• Teach swimming to all ages and skill levels
• Supervise students, monitor safety, and assist as needed
• Understand and communicate pool policies and procedures
• Evaluate students and recommend appropriate skill levels

Relationships:

Reports to the Aquatics Supervisor/Director, interacting regularly with staff, volunteers, and participants.

Qualifications:

• Required: Minimum age of 16, YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification, patience, good communication, ability to swim in shallow and deep water, commitment to safety
• Preferred: YMCA Swim Instructor certification

Work Conditions:

• Must stay in the pool area at all times
• Ability to support body weight in water and remain alert in warm environments
• Ability to recognize hazards and react calmly in emergencies
• Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds
