Job description

Swim-in Zone is looking for energetic, organized, and serious Swim-in Instructors/Teachers to be at the center of our busy, family-owned Swim School. Teachers/Swim-in Instructors are the core of our business and play an important role in possibly saving a child's life one day — a situation that occurs every summer. We often hear stories about how our instructors have helped train a child to be safe around water.

Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate is passionate about working with children and making a difference in their lives. Candidates must interact playfully with children while keeping them on task. Some swimming experience is helpful for explaining skills and terms. Instructors are expected to dedicate 10-35 hours/week helping children learn and have fun!

Responsibilities

1. Maintain safety and procedures (see safety training and materials).
2. Follow all safety rules, including wearing your whistle.
3. Transition classes smoothly.
4. Call students and bring them to the water; instructor or aide in the water first.
5. Follow Swim-in Zone's curriculum while teaching.
6. Understand and communicate the curriculum at all levels.
7. Provide excellent customer service to parents.
8. Be prepared for all lessons, including make-ups and substitutions.
9. Fill out level sheets and certificates at the end of sessions.
10. Clean up the pool area and equipment after lessons.
11. Follow dress code: one-piece suit, shorts, shirt, whistle.
12. Wear whistles at all times; available in the lifeguard office.
13. For safety, no hoop-type jewelry is permitted.

Qualifications

1. Required Certifications:
   • Lifeguard certification (renew every 2 years)
   • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (renew every 2 years)
   • Online module training (including Basic 7), renewed yearly
   • Child Abuse, Criminal Record, FBI fingerprint clearances (renew every 5 years)
2. Experience working with children is preferred.
3. Skills as a teacher, trainer, or mentor are a plus.
