Job summary

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking energetic swim team coaches to lead swimmers through skill mastery and practices at multiple branches in the area. You will provide a safe environment, coach and supervise meets, and foster YMCA values while encouraging participant enjoyment.

Applicants must be 18+, have a high school diploma, flexible schedule including nights and weekends, and hold current YMCA/ARC Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR certifications. Travel between branches is required.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of directly related experience in developing and conducting programs.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
• Current Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer or ARC Lifeguard/First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead swimmers through skill mastery and swim practices.
• Provide a safe environment for YMCA Competitive Swimming and diving.
• Encourage swimmers to enjoy the YMCA experience.
• Evaluate swimmers’ skills and provide coaching for stroke mastery.
• Manage fair practice and swim meet experiences.
• Supervise the swim meet, warm-ups, events, and safety.
• Deliver practices with energy and enthusiasm.
• Support and encourage participants.
• Incorporate YMCA values into the program (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility).
• Regularly check equipment and arrange repairs or replacements.
• Provide excellent service to members and participants.
• Communicate pool rules clearly and remain accessible.

What is needed for this job

• 18+ years of age
• High School Degree or equivalent, 2 years of directly related experience in developing and conducting programs
• Ability to work a non-traditional schedule including nights and weekends
• Know any computer software that is used for the running of meets and swimmer line ups
• Current Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer or ARC Lifeguard/First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer instructor certification
• Maintain current instructor and instructor trainer certifications (YMCA, Red Cross, etc.)
• Must have flexibility to travel between multiple branches

The responsibilities we will trust you with

• Lead swimmers through skill mastery and swim practices
• Provide a safe environment that allows swim team participants to learn YMCA Competitive Swimming and diving
• Encourage and support swimmers to provide an enjoyable YMCA experience
• Evaluate swimmers’ skills; provide skills needed to master strokes
• Ensure fair practice and swim meet experience
• Coach must supervise the entire swim meet, including warm-ups, practice dives, events, etc., ensuring the safety of the swimmers
• Conduct practices with energy and enthusiasm
• Provide support and encouragement to participants
• Incorporate character development objectives into the program to reinforce the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
• Regularly check equipment for necessary repair or replacement
• Provide excellent service to members and participants
• Communicate all pool rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
