Job summary

The City of Indianapolis and Marion County Office of Sustainability seeks a qualified professional to support philanthropic partnerships and coordinate reporting on the sustainability action plan. The role manages a $1.2M FHWA grant for air quality education and traffic congestion reduction, and collaborates with regional stakeholders to advance resilience and equity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, sustainability management and policy, environmental engineering, or related field.
• Combination of education and experience equal to five years is acceptable.
• Experience with analyzing and modeling datasets is required.
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact tactfully with various individuals.
• Proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to conduct online research.
• Strong record keeping, time management and project management skills.
• Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders; maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated creativity handling unformatted projects and ideas.

Responsibilities

• Monitor progress of the City's sustainability and resilience action plan and coordinate cross-department communications.
• Manage the Thrive Indianapolis website and publish progress updates to the community.
• Assist in managing a $1.2M federal grant for air quality awareness programs and EV education campaigns; monitor related policies.
• Monitor and interpret funding opportunities from federal/state/local/private entities.
• Represent the office on electric vehicle and charging infrastructure initiatives.
• Serve as a technical expert on recycling policies and best practices; stay updated on local market opportunities.
• Engage with key stakeholders and foster cross-department collaboration to advance sustainability initiatives and resilience.
• Identify equity considerations and develop solutions to support resilience and equity-building citywide.
• Support team members and leadership on initiatives and special assignments; assist with annual reporting (CDP, ACEEE).
