Job description

Job Summary: The sushi chef is responsible for all aspects of producing sushi for our in-store fresh sushi program. There will be direct interaction with customers during production and through sampling. The chef must work in a clean and organized manner, as production occurs in front of customers. The chef should be outgoing, friendly, and willing to answer customer questions.

Essential Job Functions
  • Greet, acknowledge, and engage all guests.
  • Prepare various finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce items for sushi.
  • Maintain food safety records for sushi rice.
  • Assemble, package, and label sushi, sides, and spring rolls for sale.
  • Prepare custom sushi rolls based on customer requests.
  • Train and assist other associates as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Food City policies and food safety standards.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality.
  • Monitor temperatures and shelf lives of ingredients and packages.
  • Keep workstation and area clean and organized.
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of sushi menu and ingredients.
  • Market the Sushi Program through sampling and promotions.
  • Assist in ordering supplies to maintain inventory without shortages.
  • Maintain proper signage for the sushi area.
  • Communicate customer feedback to the Meat Department Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to meet physical, mental, and visual demands.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform routine tasks with constant interaction.
  • Reliable attendance and adherence to scheduled shifts.
