Job description

Job Summary: The sushi chef is responsible for all aspects of preparing sushi for our in-store fresh sushi program. The role involves direct interaction with customers during production and sampling. The chef must work in a clean, organized manner, as production occurs in front of customers. The ideal candidate should be outgoing, friendly, and willing to answer customer questions.

Essential Job Functions
  • Greet, acknowledge, and engage all guests.
  • Prepare various finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce for sushi.
  • Maintain food safety records for sushi rice.
  • Assemble, package, and label sushi, sides, and spring rolls for sale.
  • Prepare custom sushi rolls upon customer request.
  • Train and assist other team members as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Food City policies, and federal, state, and local food safety standards.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality.
  • Monitor ingredient temperatures and shelf lives.
  • Keep workstations clean and organized.
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of the sushi menu and ingredients.
  • Promote the Food City Sushi Program through sampling and marketing.
  • Assist in ordering supplies to maintain inventory levels.
  • Maintain proper signage.
  • Communicate customer feedback to the Meat Department Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to meet physical, mental, and visual demands.
  • Ability to understand instructions and perform routine tasks, with regular contact with staff and customers.
  • Reliable attendance during scheduled shifts.
