Job summary

McEwen Mining in Nevada is seeking a Surveyor to support safe, accurate open pit mine development. You will perform field surveys, establish mine control, and deliver precise data to operations, engineering, and geology teams in a fast-paced environment.

This role requires strong math, problem solving, and the ability to work remotely on a mine site. You will mentor junior staff, assist with long-range planning, and ensure survey workflows meet design specifications and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience in mine surveying or related technical field.
  • Proficient with GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
  • Familiarity with survey and mine planning software such as Trimble, AutoCAD, Deswik, and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily field surveys including pit pickups, highwall mapping, stockpile measurements, and construction layout.
  • Establish and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, and mine grid systems.
  • Set out drill patterns, blast designs, haul roads, and other features per engineering specifications.
  • Process survey data, generate maps, and update mine models using survey software.
  • Maintain accurate survey records and data integrity for regulatory needs.
  • Collaborate with mine operations, engineering, and geology to support production and planning.
  • Inspect work areas for safety hazards and ensure compliance with mine safety standards.
  • Mentor junior survey staff as skills develop.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of surveying workflows.

Key Responsibilities

The Surveyor is responsible for collecting, processing, and maintaining accurate spatial data to support open pit mining activities. This role includes field surveying, data management, and delivering timely, high quality survey information to operational teams. The position requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently in a remote mine setting while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications
  • Experience in mine surveying, construction surveying, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Proficiency with survey instruments such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors.
  • Familiarity with survey and mine planning software (Trimble, Autocad, Deswik and Civil 3D, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong mathematical, spatial reasoning, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and mine plans.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate light vehicles on rough mine roads.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within a technical mining environment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Ability to walk, stand, and work on uneven ground, steep slopes, and active mining areas for extended periods.
  • Regularly lift, carry, and move equipment, survey gear, stakes, and tools up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching while setting up survey equipment or accessing field locations.
  • Ability to climb in and out of vehicles and equipment multiple times per day.
  • Tolerance for working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, Use of required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high visibility clothing, and occasionally respirators depending on conditions.
  • Remote, rural mine site environment with exposure to weather, wildlife, and rugged terrain.
  • Field based role requiring daily travel throughout the mine property.
  • Fast paced operational setting with frequent interaction across departments.
  • Rotating schedules, extended shifts, and occasional weekend work depending on operational needs.
  • Strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
