Job summary

Hecla Mining Co. is seeking a Mine Surveyor to perform underground and surface surveying, including measurements and mapping of development drifts, headings, and infrastructure. You will use Leica total station systems, Nomad data collectors, and robotic equipment to collect data and create accurate maps.

The role requires collaboration with engineers and geologists, and familiarity with Deswik and AutoCAD for data processing. An associates degree in surveying plus experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meet with Mine Engineers, Geologists and Operations to determine survey scope.
• Ensure quality of survey and related documents (maps, reports, records).
• Measure underground features with Leica total station and data collectors; collect as-built surveys using robotic total station (MS50).
• Process surveys with Deswik and AutoCAD; handle point clouds with Leica Infinity and Cyclone.
• Create 2D/3D maps and as-built plans; delineate boundaries and prepare maps.

The Mine Surveyor is responsible for underground and surface surveying, including measuring, lining out, and mapping underground features including development & production drifts, headings, infrastructure, and stopes, using a variety of survey instruments and computer databases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meets with Mine Engineers, Geologists and Operations to determine scope of needed survey.
• Responsible for quality of survey and associated documents (maps, reports, survey records)
• Measures underground features such as detail, line and grade using Leica total station & Nomad data collectors. Collects detail as-built survey using robotic total station (MS50) with point cloud survey.
• Processes survey using Deswik software and AutoCAD software, and pointclouds using Leica Infin i ty and Leica Cyclone.
• Delineates boundaries; prepares maps and as-built plans using 2D, 3D and other computer-based programs.
• Performs surface survey of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), monitoring wells, permit/claim boundaries, and other surface facilities as needed.
• Assists with other areas of Mine Engineering as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in surveying or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years’ experience in survey work; Underground mine survey experience preferred.
• Good understanding of surveying principles.
• The ability to use survey equipment to produce data, analyze and summarize into computer generated reports and maps is required.
