Job summary

PS&S is seeking an Instrument Operator for our Raleigh, NC office to support survey crews on civil, transportation, and site-development projects. The role emphasizes hands-on fieldwork, problem solving, and delivering high-quality data for engineering design.

The position requires experience with survey instruments, data collectors, and field operations. OSHA 10-hour certification and a valid driver’s license are preferred, with opportunities for long-term growth within surveying.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years of land surveying or related fieldwork.
• Familiarity with modern survey instruments and data collectors.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and unrestricted driving record.
• OSHA 10-hour certification.
• Interest in long-term career growth within surveying.

Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating field activities and maintain survey equipment.
• Work across boundary, topographic, physical, and construction stake-out surveys.
• Operate field equipment (total stations, data collectors) and provide front-end locations.
• May supervise field crew daily operations of surveys and layouts.
• Perform field calculations, note-taking, and quality checks for data accuracy.
• Set up, break down, and transport equipment safely.
• Follow safety protocols and contribute to safe field operations.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.
