Job summary

Brevard County in Florida is seeking a Junior Party Chief to join the Surveying & Mapping unit within the Public Works Department. The role involves operating survey instruments, preparing field notes, and performing calculations for monuments, boundaries and construction layouts. The position is permanent, full time, with a 6:30 a.m.

to 3:00 p.m. schedule, and pays $23.86 hourly with salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of field survey experience under a Registered Land Surveyor or Mapper.
• OR three (3) years of college coursework toward a technical degree plus one year of survey experience.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Florida driver's license.
• Must obtain FDOT MOT/TTC certification within 9 months of employment.
• OSHA-confined space training within 9 months, per 29 CFR 1910.146.
• Must complete FL Survey & Mapping Society Florida Law course within 6 months.
• Must complete county leadership course within 24 months.

$23.86 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Government Center/Viera. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Performs experienced technical field work as part of a survey field crew, serving as a Junior Party Chief, operating survey instruments, including theodolites, digital levels, Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, and data collectors with Trimble software and preparing field notes and sketches. Work includes performing field survey calculations for monument searches, boundary determinations, sectional breakdowns, and construction layout.

REQUIREMENTS

Four (4) years of field survey experience working under the supervision of a Registered Land Surveyor and Mapper; OR three (3) years [30 semester (45 quarter) hours = one (1) year] of college-level coursework towards a technical degree in Surveying, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Drafting, Mathematics, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a closely related field PLUS one (1) year of survey or construction experience. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within nine (9) months of employment a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification, and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within nine (9) months of employment, current documentation of successful completion of an OSHA-compliant Confined Space Entry Training course, in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.146. Must successfully complete, within 6 months of employment, a FL Survey & Mapping Society Florida Law course and receive a passing score on the associated examination. Must successfully complete, within twenty-four (24) months of employment, a Brevard County-sponsored leadership course, including 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity, Emotional Intelligence, The Multiplier Effect, What's Your Sign?, or another County-approved leadership course. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

FOR EXTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY

Must satisfactorily complete, within nine (9) months of employment, all of the classes in the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees. Must complete, within eighteen (18) months of employment, all of the classes for all three (3) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on each of the phase examinations.
