REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Survey Technician (Highway Construction & Engineering Division).

The functions listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional related functions as necessary.

The Survey Technician performs a variety of land survey work related to the collection of survey data and the preparation of surveys.

• Operate a work vehicle to transport survey tools to and from the survey job site.
• Assist in locating and reconnaissance of survey control points and property corners to establish a baseline for the survey.
• Accurately set up survey equipment and Maintenance of Traffic devices required for the survey.
• Locate field conditions and improvements per survey work order.
• Operate a Total Station and electronic data collector to digitally measure and record angles and distances, and calculate precise coordinates of surveyed points.
• Read survey level and accurately record readings in field book.
• Conduct other related tasks as necessary to complete the survey.

General description: Works as support personnel on a field crew, works under close general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires one (1) year technical work in surveying or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

• A valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License for the duration of hire.

Preferences

• Associates Degree or higher in engineering/technical related coursework.
• Completion of engineering/technical related college level coursework comprising 9 or more credit hours.
• National Society of Professional Surveyors Certified Survey Technician Level 1 or higher.
• Florida Department of Education Apprenticeship, Survey Assistant, Instrument Person certification.
• FAA Part 107 Certificate (Drone Pilot License).
• FDOT MOT certification.
• First Aid/CPR certification or Defensive driving certification.
• At least one (1) year of experience using electronic data collection equipment.
• At least one (1) year of experience working with GPS/GNSS equipment.
• At least one (1) year of experience working with Digital Levels/LIDAR/drones.
• At least one (1) year of experience working with Carlson/Spectra data collection software.
• At least one (1) year of experience surveying roadways, performing as-builts or construction layout.

SCOPE OF WORK

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Run data collector and total station; record field notes in book and run level; drive a truck to and from the job site; help set up any signs and equipment needed for the job.
• Help and assist in anything that needs to be done at the job site; pick up all equipment at the end of the day; shoot all control points and property corners; set up instruments to establish a baseline for the job.
• Perform any task specified by the party chief or office for each job.
• Perform related work as assigned.
