Job summary

Broward County Government is seeking a Survey Technician for the Highway Construction & Engineering Division to collect survey data, operate a total station and electronic data collector, and prepare surveys. The role involves transporting tools, locating control points, and setting up equipment for survey work.

Qualifications include at least one year of technical surveying experience and a Florida class E driver’s license. Additional certifications in surveying-related areas are preferred.

Survey Technician (Highway Construction & Engineering Division)

This position supports the Highway Construction & Engineering Division by collecting survey data, operating a total station and electronic data collector, and preparing surveys.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a work vehicle to transport survey tools to and from survey job sites.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • One (1) year technical work in surveying or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
  • A valid Florida Class "E" Driver's License.
Preferences
  • Associate’s Degree or higher in engineering/technical related coursework.
  • Completion of engineering/technical related college level coursework comprising 9 or more credit hours.
  • National Society of Professional Surveyors Certified Survey Technician Level 1 or higher.
  • Florida Department of Education Apprenticeship, Survey Assistant, Instrument Person certification.
  • FAA Part 107 Certificate (Drone Pilot License).
  • FDOT MOT certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification or Defensive driving certification.
  • At least one (1) year of experience using electronic data collection equipment.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with GPS/GNSS equipment.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with Digital Levels/LIDAR/drones.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with Carlson/Spectra data collection software.
  • At least one (1) year of experience surveying roadways/performing as-builts/construction layout.

Physical Demands

Light to medium work involving walking or standing virtually all of the time, frequently exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force, and performing tasks requiring precise hand and finger coordination.
