Civil and Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in Houston, TX is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations on topographic, boundary, ALTA/NSPS surveys and construction stakeouts.

You will direct a field crew, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure data integrity. You will mentor junior crew, manage schedules, coordinate with project managers and clients, and adapt to changing field conditions while upholding safety.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of construction related survey crew chief experience.
• Experience with GPS devices, data collectors and/or Total Station.
• Proficient with Trimble equipment and Access software.
• Ability to work with independent judgment and initiative.
• Solid knowledge of land surveying principles and practices.
• Background in construction surveying and stakes procedures.
• Familiarity with CAD instruments and methods.
• Able to operate motorized equipment and work outdoors.
• Valid Driver's License.

What You'll Do

As a Survey Crew Chief, you'll be a leader and a key part of our survey field team, responsible for:

• Leading Field Operations: Directing a field crew on a variety of projects, including topographic, boundary, and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, as well as construction stakeouts.
• Operating Advanced Equipment: Independently using and troubleshooting modern survey equipment. A strong working knowledge of Trimble survey equipment (e.g., robotic total stations, GPS) and software is required.
• Data Integrity and QA/QC: Ensuring the accuracy and quality of all field data, maintaining detailed field notes, and performing on-site quality control.
• Team and Project Management: Managing project schedules, coordinating with project managers and clients, and training and mentoring junior crew members.
• Problem-Solving: Applying your experience to solve complex field challenges and adapting to changing project conditions.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years' construction related survey crew chief experience
• Skilled in the use of GPS devices, data collectors and/or Total Station
• Experience with Trimble and Access
• Work requires independent judgment and initiative
• Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of land surveying
• Extensive background in construction surveying, construction staking and proper staking procedures
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and instruments used in computer aided drafting
• Knowledge of industry specific safe workplace principles and practices
• Ability to operate motorized equipment
• Ability to work outdoors under various field conditions
• Valid Driver's License.
