Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design seeks an energetic Survey Crew Chief to lead field surveys in Western New York. You will plan, execute and oversee surveys, interact with site supervisors, and ensure accurate field notes and safety compliance. Travel about half the time and operate survey equipment and vehicles.

A strong background in civil surveying and stakeout is required. You will mentor junior staff, maintain equipment, and adapt to varying weather while delivering precise data for project

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of field survey experience and at least 2+ year of experience as a Crew Chief, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Proficient with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations and leveling.
  • Experience with civil surveying and construction staking required.
  • Experience with or ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
  • Self-starter, with little need for supervision once provided with a work assignment.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather.
  • Travel required (50%).
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform advanced field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
  • Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
  • Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
  • Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with minimal assistance from office support team.
  • Prepare or receive from the PM, the Health, and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
  • Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
  • Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
  • Mentor and train junior field staff to facilitate career advancement.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an energetic, adaptable and solution oriented Survey Crew Chief in Western New York who will be able to take and follow instructions but also be able to think independently.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.

Compensation: $30.00 to $40.62 per hour (depending on qualifications)
