Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Team. You will provide nursing care, assist with IV catheter placement, and monitor patient vitals in a fast-paced specialty hospital.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.
• Post-operative client communication competence.
• Rotating on-call schedule required once training has been completed.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in the cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exam; accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids; administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
