Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Jacksonville, FL is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Team. This position offers a sign-on bonus for qualified applicants and pays a starting range of $20.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will provide nursing care to stable patients, place IV catheters, and perform routine physical exams.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
• Ability to work independently while supporting a larger surgical team.
• Willingness to rotate on-call schedule after training.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheters in cephalic veins.
• Perform physical exams and accurately record heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, and respiratory parameters.
• Monitor vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
• Set up and administer intravenous fluids, including subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate all brands of IV fluid pumps and troubleshoot issues.
• Disconnect and reconnect patient from IV fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and signs of overload.

We are now offering a Sign-On Bonus for up to $7,500 for qualified applicants!

Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
