Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Golden Valley, MN is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant for our fast-paced Surgery Department. The role involves assisting veterinarians with surgical planning, diagnostics, anesthesia, and client communication, with an on-call rotation after training.

Pay ranges from $19.00 to $28.00 per hour, with a 4/10 shift schedule and on-call differential pay for nights and weekends. Opportunities include training through BluePearl University and insurance benefits.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of veterinary medicine experience.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Advance veterinary skills with on-the-job training.
• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and run bloodwork.
• Perform physical exams: auscultate heart and measure vitals.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring and surgeries for ASA I or II patients.
• Follow RECOVER CPR guidelines and assist as assigned.
• Scrub into surgeries (e.g., GDV, FHO, TPLO, total hip replacements).
• Clean and organize three surgical suites and the packroom.
