BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NY is seeking a Relief Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. Pay ranges $22.19 - $30.36 per hour depending on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

A rotating on-call schedule is required once training is completed. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a veterinary hospital, and will assist with nursing care, radiography, lab work, client communication, and other surgical support tasks in

• A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with nursing care to surgery patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in Surgery and other designated areas for the role.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Perform radiography and lab work.
• Engage with our clients during appointments, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction.
• Remain current on RECOVER CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
• Able to set up intravenous and subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
• Ability to assist during surgical procedures.
