Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an experienced RN for the NT7 Digestive Surgical Unit. The role focuses on post-operative care for complex surgical patients, wound and ostomy management, and close collaboration with surgical residents to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Requirements include an Illinois RN license, BLS within 30 days, and at least 1 year of RN experience for external applicants. The unit emphasizes teamwork in a high-acuity environment with dedicated educators and nurse leadership.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN (IDFPR) in Illinois or eligible to practice in Illinois.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• HS Diploma or GED required.
• External applicants require RN > 1 year experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs admission assessments and develops care plans according to unit standards.
• Carries out post-operative care for complex surgical patients.
• Monitors wounds, ostomies and wound vac; manages chest tubes and drains as needed.
• Maintains accurate documentation for seamless communication with the healthcare team.
• Ensures patient and staff safety and escalating hazards as appropriate.
• Collaborates with surgical residents and OMFS for optimal patient outcomes.
