Qualifications

  • Perform sponge and instrument counts with the circulating RN.

Job Description

Provides intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person assisting the surgical team during an operative procedure.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, Experience, and/or Licensure:

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, completion of a Surgical Technology program, completion of a Registered Nurse program, or completion of summer surgical tech extern program OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of previous scrub experience.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Experience:

  • Surgical Technology experience preferred.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the general nature of work performed by individuals in this position. They are not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.

  1. Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in unsterile or sterile roles in the OR.
  2. Assists the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.
  3. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.
  4. Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
  5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during procedures.
  6. Assists with transportation and positioning of patients, including holding retractors and positioning operative limbs under surgeon’s direction.
  7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedures following preference cards.
  8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  9. Monitors inventory; orders and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following guidelines.
  11. Assists with general cleaning duties of the department.
  12. Performs equipment checks as assigned.
  13. Assists with recording patient charges accurately.
  14. Responds to call within 30 minutes.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands include:

  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds and pushing/pulling carts up to 200 lbs.
  • Visual, hearing, oral acuity, manual dexterity, and technical ability.
  • Ability to wear lead for extended periods.

Additional Job Details

Surgical Technologists work with the Vascular team for open and endovascular procedures. The shift is 10 hours with on-call responsibilities.
