Job Title: Surgical Technologist - The James
Department: James | Operating Room
Scope of Position: The Surgical Technologist functions as an integral member of a care team on a patient care unit, fostering a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, including the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC-RN), Anesthesia Technician (AT), and Unit Clerical Associate (UCA), provides patient care aimed at achieving positive outcomes, involving patients in their care, improving service levels, reducing hospitalization length, and decreasing costs. Patients and families benefit from patient-focused care through the skills of all team members.
Position Summary: The Surgical Technologist (ST) is a professional staff position working under the supervision of the Perioperative Manager and PCC-RN. The ST performs technical intraoperative patient care tasks, following established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting during surgeries and endoscopy procedures for pediatric and adult patients, primarily in the scrub role. Under supervision, the ST handles operating room materials and may assist surgeons during procedures. The role emphasizes cost-effective, quality care, ongoing education, certification, and professional growth. The ST works rotating shifts, including on-call duties.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, completion of a formal Surgical Technology Training Program or equivalent, and at least 1 year of relevant experience. 2-4 years of experience preferred.
