Scope of Position
The James Outpatient Care Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The James Outpatient Care Laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and assists with bone marrow procedures. The James Outpatient Care Laboratory provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The James Outpatient Care Laboratory is staffed 24 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with hours varying according to workflow on weekends and holidays.
Position Summary
The medical laboratory technologists performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results. Handles phone inquires regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. Oncology staff uses the laboratory computer system to review report and call critical values to various healthcare professionals. The James Outpatient Care Laboratory staff performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Medical laboratory technologists work under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in medical technology, or biological science with Medical Technician certification.Must obtain Medical Technology certification within one year from the date of hire.
