Job description

Job Description: Surgical Technician

Work under the direct supervision of a Clinician to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures in a specific service. Coordinates instrumentation, equipment, and supplies to ensure proper use and availability for quality patient service. Work on complex surgical procedures within at least three surgical specialties.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Teaching both skill and theoretical principles to new employees and students.
  2. Efficiently passing instruments and sterile supplies during surgery, assisting with retractors, sutures, sponge and needle counts, and other tasks as directed by the surgeon.
  3. Managing repairs, ordering, and maintenance of supplies and equipment related to the surgical specialty.
  4. Preparing the operating room before surgery, including setting up instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies, and checking equipment functionality.
  5. Problem-solving related to patient care and technical issues to improve OR operations.
  6. Supervising surgical technicians on daily shifts, serving as the lead, and resolving issues.

Additional duties include:

  1. Preparing patients for surgery and assisting with positioning and aseptic procedures.
  2. Assisting with specimen handling, dressing application, and ensuring asepsis.
  3. Supporting cost containment and resource management.
  4. Demonstrating in-depth knowledge of surgical specialties and excellent communication skills.
  5. Ensuring medication labeling and assisting with patient transfer post-surgery.
  6. Cleaning, restocking, and maintaining a safe, sterile environment in the OR.
  7. Mentoring students and new staff members.

*Candidate must be willing to work shifts between 7am-11pm, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
