Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to set up tables, prepare rooms for procedures, and ensure sterile supplies and instruments are ready for operations. The role involves patient transport, equipment handling, and assisting the surgical team throughout procedures.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, coordinating with nurses and physicians, maintaining sterile fields, and supporting anesthesia as needed. Prior OR experience and certification are required.

Qualifications

• Must have hands-on clinical/medical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to provide patient care and assist in procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively with nurses, physicians, and clerks.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and directs them to proper treatment area; facilitates patient flow.
• Assists with communication among patients, nurses, clerks and physicians.
• Informs supervisor of new admissions, activities, and issues.
• Provides patient transport to appropriate units as needed.
• Transports specimens, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintains a safe, orderly environment on the unit.
• Records baseline vitals and reports to RN.
• Performs patient care tasks such as positioning and linen changes.
• Counts and prepares instruments for procedures; assists with gowning and gloving.
• Maintains sterile field and assists with draping and positioning.
• Assists Anesthesiologist as directed.
• Anticipates instrument needs during surgery.
• Handles specimens and cultures obtained during surgery.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments as directed.
