Job summary

Osceola Medical Center in Osceola, WI is seeking a Casual Surgical Technologist to join our Surgical Services team. You will assist surgeons, maintain sterile technique, and ensure safe, efficient operations in the OR. A strong foundation in asepsis, OR scrubbing, and instrument handling is required, with current BLS and English proficiency.

Prior OR experience strongly preferred. This casual role offers exposure to orthopedic and ambulatory procedures, opportunities to contribute to quality

Qualifications

• Graduate of operating room technician program or military operating room training and/or minimum of 2 years varied operating room scrubbing experience.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of Operating Room experience.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office, Censitrac and EPIC.
• Able to effectively read, write, and speak English.
• Able to calculate medication doses and other medication-related calculations.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Adapt to rapidly changing workloads and make sound judgments.
• Works well in a multidisciplinary setting and under pressure.
• Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
• Performs the surgical scrub, and donning gown and gloves.
• Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
• Performs initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator.
• Assists the team with gowning and gloving.
• Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
• Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure.
• Coordinates the camera or robotic arms as directed by the surgeon.
• Maintains sterile technique and assists in preparing sterile dressings and equipment for the next case.
• Supports debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
