Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare seeks a Surgical Tech to assist nursing staff in the Operating Room, preparing rooms, equipment, and supplies while maintaining aseptic technique and patient safety throughout the perioperative pathway.

The role emphasizes collaboration with the care team, adherence to infection control, and continuous professional growth; may support changes to physician preference cards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
• Clinical education/experience criteria: OR Tech program graduate or LPN with OR experience orScrub/OR Tech with 7+ years OR experience.
• Must become a Certified Surgical Technologist within 6 months of hire.
• Virginia Board of Medicine registration as a Surgical Technologist required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with care team to form patient plan of care and achieve outcomes.
• Communicates safe therapeutic care throughout perioperative experience.
• Prepares OR rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
• Maintains aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
• Drapes patients and assists the surgical team during operations.
• Assists in turnover between cases and supports changes to physician preference cards.
• Promotes a safe, orderly environment and participates in infection control and quality improvement.
