Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program.
• Completion of certified surgical technologist program; certification within 1 year.
• Certification required by January 1, 2012; grandfathering for older hires.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the surgical department; can work independently on minor cases.
• Physical ability to stand, lift up to 25 pounds; good vision requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgery.
• Position and prepare patient for surgery; ensure sterility and safety.
• Pass instruments, sponges, and sutures to the surgeon during procedures.
• Apply sterile technique and support asepsis in the operating room.
• Assist the team; prepare the operative site and report procedure status.
• Maintain accountability as a health care professional for actions.
• Complete non-therapeutic tasks under supervision of MD/PA/RN.
