Job summary

Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale NewHaven Health, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to scrub OB procedures and assist in nursing care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The role requires certification in Surgical Technology and adherence to sterile technique.

Qualified candidates will have completed a CAAHEP accredited program or equivalent, with certification within 1 year of employment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or equivalent.
• Experience in Labor & Delivery preferred.
• Certification in Surgical Technology within 1 year of employment.
• Completion of licensed Certified Surgical Technology Program.

Responsibilities

• Performs scrub duties with aseptic technique during OB/L&D procedures.
• Performs selected patient care activities under RN direction.
• Demonstrates accountability for delegated tasks and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• 1.Performs the duties of a scrub person.
  • 1.1Performs technical skills proficiently during procedures while demonstrating knowledge of sterile technique by adhering to principles of asepsis 100% of the time.
• 2.Performs selected patient care activities in Labor & Delivery under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • 2.1Identifies changes in patients' condition and communicates significant observations to the RN as evidenced by report.
• 3.Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role.
  • 3.1Assumes responsibility for delegated activities 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate of CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or formal program as defined by the LCCST or who has completed the structured on the job training program at Bridgeport Hospital.

LICENSURE

Completion of licensed Certified Surgical Technology Program. As of January 1, 2012 all newly hired Surgical Technologist will be certified or obtain certification within 1 year of employment. Surgical Technician hired before January 1, 2012 will be grandfathered in.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Good interpersonal skills. Evidence of successful completion of MCH/OR training program (score of 85% or better on exam).

PHYSICAL DEMAND

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, or crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. They may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
