Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System and Olathe Hospital are seeking a Surgical Technologist to support operating room procedures on a PRN basis. The role involves preparing the OR, handling instruments, and maintaining a sterile field under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with draping, passing instruments, and participating in the time-out process to verify patient, procedure, and site. Requires a surgical tech credential or 3 years of experience and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Certificate or Associate’s Surgical Tech degree OR 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in lieu of the certificate or degree requirement.
• BLS or BCLS - American Heart Association.
• Respirator Fit Test required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room for surgical procedures. Ensures surgical equipment is functioning properly and safely. Prepares supplies, instruments, and equipment using sterile technique.
• Provides surgical assistance. Places sterile drapes on the patient to establish the sterile operating field. Participates in the time-out process to verify the correct patient, procedure, and surgical site. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team based on knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology. Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon and assists during the procedure.
• Maintains sterile field and safety; identifies and corrects breaks in the sterile operating field; maintains highest standard of sterile technique.
• Performs instrument, sponge, needle, and supply counts with a registered nurse circulator.

Education

High School Graduate or equivalent

Surgical Tech certificate/degree or 3 years alternate experience
