Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements.

Responsibilities

• Handle instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures and maintain sterile field.
• Scrub, gown, glove, and set up sterile field; pass supplies and instruments; assist with draping and suctioning as needed.
• Assist in counting sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments with the RN circulator and maintain aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
• Prepare instruments for terminal sterilization and assist in cleaning operating rooms post-surgery; may rotate to Sterile Processing.
• Contribute to quality patient care, professional practice, and unit-based quality improvement activities; act as a preceptor and resource for external resources.
• Participate in universal protocol and time-out processes, review surgical consent, patient identification, and allergies.
