Surgical Technologist

Assists surgeons and other medical professionals in operating rooms and similar environments. Prepares patients, rooms, and equipment for surgical procedures. Assists during surgeries as part of the surgical team.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Prepares operating rooms, ensuring all equipment and supplies are properly disinfected, assembled, and functional. Maintains the sterile field during procedures.
  2. Provides supportive care during the pre-operative phase, including preparing the patient's skin, positioning patients, and monitoring vital signs.
  3. Performs scrub functions during surgery, such as passing sterile equipment, assisting with sutures, tracking used items, collecting specimens, and helping dress wounds. May transport patients post-procedure.
  4. Ensures operating rooms are clean, sterile, and stocked for subsequent procedures.
  5. Performs clerical duties, including ordering supplies, maintaining logs, entering patient information, managing inventory, and supporting administrative staff.
  6. Delivers compassionate support and assistance to patients and families.
  7. Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
  8. Maintains a safe and clean working environment, adhering to infection control and hazardous waste policies.
  9. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology training program.
  • One month of job-related experience or training.
  • BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of surgical technologist experience.
  • Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent experience.
  • Certification by the NBSTSA (formerly Liaison Council on Certification of Surgical Technologists).
