Position Title: Surgical Technologist (Non-Certified) PT; 24 hrs/week - Westwood Cancer Center, Westwood Medical Pavilion - West

Position Summary / Career Interest

The Cancer Center Surgical Technologist (non-certified), under the direction of the Registered Nurse, supports patient care by performing essential duties to assist the physician and procedural team with major or minor procedures within the procedure room setting. Responsibilities include room preparation/set up, patient positioning, patient prep/draping, procedural assistance, transportation, inventory management, equipment cleaning, coordination with Sterile Processing Dept, and supply stocking.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

1. Adhere to infection prevention standards; set up the surgical table with instruments and supplies.
2. Prepare equipment for use, such as procedure tables and ultrasound machines.
3. Assist RN with patient transport.
4. Prepare and position patients for surgery.
5. Provide psychological and physical comfort to patients; monitor and report changes in condition.
6. Provide appropriate instrumentation and supplies during procedures.
7. Perform pre-cleaning of instruments and prepare them for sterilization.
8. Perform high-level disinfection of designated equipment.
9. Complete room turnover between cases, including cleaning and setup.
10. Maintain equipment inventory; communicate needs with Biomed and Sterile Processing.
11. Plan for new equipment and supply needs in collaboration with physicians.
12. Coordinate logistical support and transport of equipment and supplies to other locations.
13. In Radiation Oncology, coordinate with departments for intra-procedural imaging and seed planning, and generate weekly case calendars.
14. Forecast instrumentation usage to improve department turnover.
15. Collaborate with vendors on equipment purchases and preventative maintenance.
16. Maintain par levels of nutritional items for procedures.
17. Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies as assigned.
18. Other duties as required, depending on department needs.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate, or
• Enrolled in an accredited nursing program with completed fundamentals, or
• Bachelor's Degree in healthcare or science-related field, or
• Two years of surgical experience under RN supervision, demonstrating knowledge of instrumentation and infection prevention principles.

Required Licensure and Certification

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
