Job summary

Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston is seeking a part-time Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will prepare the OR, maintain sterile technique, transport patients, and assist surgeons during procedures.

The role is onsite at the Boston main campus (243 Charles Street) with competitive benefits and opportunities to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. A high school diploma and BLS are required; CST preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• BLS Certification preferred; CST NBSTSA preferred.
• Experience as Surgical Technologist I or similar: 0–1 year required; 1–2 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
• Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Transport patients to the operating room and assist with positioning.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures.
• Follow sterilization techniques to ensure instrument cleanliness and sterility.
• Maintain documentation of surgical procedures and counts.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and staff.
• Assist in preparing the surgical site with sterile drapes and solutions.
• Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed.

Essential Functions

• -Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
• -Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.
• -Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure.
• -Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures.
• -Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies.
• -Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used.
• -Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.
• -Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.
• -Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.
