Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary within Mass General Brigham is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in the operating room, prepare and transport patients, and pass instruments to surgeons. You will join a patient care team and ensure sterile technique and efficient OR flow at 800 Huntington Avenue.

The role requires a high school diploma, BLS, CST credentials preferred, and 3–5 years of OR experience; positions are onsite with a 40-hour week and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • No substitute of experience for the degree.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • NBSTSA CST preferred.
  • New Hampshire License preferred.
  • Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred.
  • Three (3) years of diversified experience in the operating/procedure room; 3-5 years required.
  • Five (5) years of experience scrubbing in multiple specialties preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience working and leading teams; 3-5 years preferred.
  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in time out procedures.
  • Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Sets up equipment independently.
  • Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
  • Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes.
  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.

Job Summary

Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. May provide day-to-day guidance/direction to more junior staff.

Qualifications Education

Licenses and Credentials
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
  • Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
  • Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
  • Medical Technician [New Hampshire License] - New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy preferred
Experience
  • Three (3) years of diversified experience in the operating/procedure room 3-5 years required
  • Experience scrubbing in multiple specialties; five (5) years of experience preferred
  • One (1) year of experience working and leading teams 3-5 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
  • Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
