Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support patients before, during, and after surgery. The role involves setting up the operating room with instruments and supplies, maintaining aseptic technique, and assisting with patient positioning and surgical pauses to verify correct site and patient.

Responsibilities include counts of sponges, needles and instruments; adapting to surgeon preferences; and contributing to cost-effective, efficient patient care.

Qualifications

• One year certificate from a college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training.
• Preferred: 1–3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
• CPR – American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up the surgical operating suite with instruments and supplies (20%).
• Utilize aseptic techniques and standard precautions; follow medication and specimen handling policy (20%).
• Assist with preparing, positioning and draping patients; participate in surgical pause for correct patient and site (20%).
• Understand and adapt to surgeon preference and patient care variables; contribute to updating surgeon preference materials (20%).
• Perform sponge, needle, and instrument count (10%).
• Care for and utilize resources to promote cost-effective and efficient environment for patients (10%).
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.
