Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks a Surgical Technician to support the Birthplace and Women & Children float pool. You will perform first scrub duties on core cases, assist surgeons and anesthesia, and maintain sterile technique across obstetric procedures.

Requires at least one year of related experience or completion of a Surgical Technology program. Basic Life Support certification is required; ability to float to other OR areas as needed.

Qualifications

• One year minimum experience as Surgical Tech, Patient Care Tech, CNA or Paramedic required.
• Knowledge of asepsis and sterile technique.
• Ability to assist in multiple roles (first scrub, surgical assistant).

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates asepsis and maintains sterile technique.
• Performs first scrub on core cases and assists with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections when needed.
• Assists with patient care activities: vitals, newborn care, and rounds.
• Maintains instrument counts, lab specimens, and room readiness.
• Performs clerical tasks including admissions and communications.

Education

Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or equivalent experience
